Hexion Chemical Inc. and OAO Shchekinoazot : Strong Partnership Continues to Serve Russian Market.

The Russian Forest Product market has seen significant developments since 2009 when Hexion Inc. (Hexion), the world’s leading producer of thermoset resins, and OAO Shchekinoazot, a large Russian industrial chemicals producer, announced their joint venture company and began manufacturing phenol formaldehyde resins for the forest products and construction markets.
The combination of Hexion’s leading-edge technology and Shchekinoazot’s local infrastructure, which included backward integration into methanol production, has proven to be very powerful. Over the past six years the joint venture business grew strongly and in 2014 the resin plant was operating at full capacity. At the end of 2014 the plant capacity was expanded & a new reactor was brought online.
“As a global leader in resin systems for the forest products industry, our goal continues to be to locate where we can efficiently serve our global customer base,” said Dale Plante, president of Hexion’s Forest Products Division. “Establishing the joint venture company was part of our on-going strategy to drive value for our customers in key markets around the world through leveraging advanced technology and our unsurpassed global knowledge and understanding of their processes.”
The joint venture is today producing phenol formaldehyde resins aimed at key construction and forest products markets. A program of continued investment is focused on ensuring customers receive the best quality products, which are produced according to the highest environmental and safety standards. The joint venture’s commitment to deliver customer value is at the core of the relationship between Hexion and Shchekinoazot. Future investments are likely to be focused on both additional capacity at the existing plant in Tula, to the south of Moscow, and also geographic expansion in new key growth areas of Russia. “It has been exciting to partner with a highly regarded organization like Shchekinoazot,” Plante added. “Hexion has significant expertise and experience in advanced resin technology. This combined with Shchekinoazot’s successful position in the Russian marketplace has resulted in a powerful value proposition for customers.”
“Russia’s tremendous forest resources make it one of the most dynamic forest products markets in the world,” said Boris Sokol, President of OAO Shchekinoazot. “Development of mineral wool, furniture, construction materials and other key production lines will create an increasing demand for synthetic resins and we’re happy to continue our partnership with Hexion to meet that need.”
Hexion’s goal, as a global leader in resin systems for the forest products industry, is to be at the center of this growth delivering customer value with advanced technology.
