Robert Kinstrey Winner of 2013 Herman Joachim Distinguished Service Award.

Robert Kinstrey, Director, Pulp and Paper Consultancy for Jacobs, has been named recipient of TAPPI’s 2013 Herman Joachim Distinguished Service Award. The Award is the highest honor the Association can bestow upon an individual for exemplary leadership that has significantly contributed to the advancement of the Association. It will be presented at the PaperCon 2013 Conference Awards Dinner, Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
“By virtue of the outstanding leadership he has demonstrated in a number of senior positions Robert Kinstrey has provided great benefit to the Association and its members,” according to Larry N. Montague, president and CEO of TAPPI. “During a long and distinguished career he’s led by example and has been an inspiration to everyone he’s worked with. I am pleased to be able to honor his outstanding record of service with this prestigious award. “
Kinstrey is a TAPPI Fellow and has been an active participant and leader in TAPPI and PIMA for many years. He’s served in a wide range of senior roles including TAPPI Foundation Trustee and the TAPPI Board of Directors and has made over 90 presentations and publications. He’s a member of the Syracuse Pulp & Paper Foundation where he’s served on the Board of Directors and as Foundation President. He was awarded the 2008 PIMA/CPBIS Management Excellence Award.
He’s an industry veteran with 46 years of consulting, operating and technical experience in pulp and paper manufacturing. During the first half of his career he worked in mill operations for Great Northern Nekoosa and Union Camp. As Director of Pulp & Paper Consultancy at Jacobs he manages pulp and paper business optimization activities and has worked on over 190 studies for customers in more than 30 countries. He holds a B.S. degree, Pulp & Paper, from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and an M.S. in Industrial Management from Clarkson University.
In 1994 Herman L. Joachim made a gift to TAPPI that was used to establish the Herman L. Joachim Distinguished Service Award Fund. Since that time the Fund has provided a cash honorarium to each year’s honoree. Herman L. Joachim was a TAPPI member for more than 70 years since he joined while working as a chemist at the Bogalusa Paper Company in Louisiana. He later managed paper mills throughout the United States and also enjoyed a successful career as an engineering consultant.
